Ex-Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu has been appointed coach of the Singapore cricket team and his first task will be to prepare the team for the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 5 from 20 to 27 February which serves as a qualifying round for the 2015 World Cup.
The tournament will be held in Nepal which is also coached by another Sri Lankan, Roy Dias. The other teams taking part in the tournament are Nepal, Bahrain, Fiji, Jersey, Singapore and the USA. Atapattu takes over the Singapore team from Trevor Chappell.
“Trevor Chappell did a fantastic job for Singapore and all the side have been given a taste for victory. It’s going to be hard work for the team when we travel to Nepal. My style of coaching is different to Trevor’s but I am confident the side will adapt and do a good job. I will also need to adjust while they (players) need to understand my expectations to compete on all three skills levels – batting, bowling and fielding”, said Atapattu.
