Reducing UNP votes from 4.1 to 2.5 million is not a big deal, Basil Rajapaksa

Reducing 4.1 million of votes the opposition received across the island to 2.5 million votes in the upcoming genera election is not that difficult, says the Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa.

He made these comments addressing an awareness programme held for officials of the Independent Teacher Trade Union Association of Gampaha District in Kadawatha yesterday.

“Based on the current political situation in the country, either the majority of UNP votes will be cast for us or they will not be cast at all. The UNP got only 2.5 million at the Provincial Council polls. Therefore we will definitely go back to the Provincial Council system.

“This is because the TNA has split in the North and East. Furthermore I believe there are signs of them moving away from the South. Therefore I think there will be an even bigger reduction,” said Basil Rajapaksa.

  1. i would like to hear about how you implement policies rather reducing vote base. Last elections have shown how they will appreciate the real work.get out from old politics and only work you do will decide vote base.

Never thought the day would come, when I would agree with you, on implementation of policies rather than looking at reducing vote base ( or maybe rigging election)

My God what arrogance, He is so confident that he can do it.God help our beautiful Sri lanka.

      1. I always like to see the things out of politics and hate. i see only what is right and what is wrong.I don’t accept hypothesize conclusions but factual.Voting system has reduced good capable people and we cant see people like Mr. lakshaman kadiragarmer is in the list today. but foolish people who blindly voting still there in the society.I know one lady voted Duminda silva and reason given was he is smart looking fellow. Why ranjan ramanayake or jeevan kumarathunga was elected. just crap and nothing they are to offer. Need wise people to system.who can see 2 generations ahead and making they just design roads and with the growth cities cannot cope with the size of the road in 10 years. they never consider peoples movements and just provide solution for today and they just popular today. Good politicians provide solutions for future and they will be popular all the time.
